How marine biotechnology provides much-needed solutions

The Norwegian Embassy in Copenhagen and Biotech North invite DANISH BIO – DANSK BIOTEK’s members to participate in a matchmaking webinar on marine life science and biotech.

The COVID-19 crisis has shown how crucial the life science industry is. After the pandemic has brought the world to its knees, it is the life science industry that will get the world back on its feet. It will do so primarily through vaccines and treatments, but also through economic growth, job creation and international partnerships.

Norway is an Arctic Ocean nation, which is reflected in the Norwegian life science industry. Northern Norway is one of the most biologically diverse marine environments in the world. Many of the organisms in this area have had to adapt to be able to survive in cold, harsh environments, leading to the development of cold-adapted properties. These unique properties provide a broad range of utilities, especially in industries where materials have to stay very cold, such as biomedicine and pharmaceuticals.

In this webinar, a few selected northern Norwegian companies in the cluster Biotech North will show how they put these marine resources to novel use:

    Speakers:

    • Prof. Jeanette Hammer, Head of Marbio, UiT The Arctic University of Norway
    • Dr. Olav Lanes, Director R&D and Applications, ArcticZymes Technologies ASA
    • Jaran Rauø, Head of R&D, Marealis Innovation
