DTU: Centre for Diagnostics

Bio: Centre for Diagnostics – DTU Health Tech

The Centre for Diagnostics (CfD) at DTU Health Tech is a leading Danish hub for the development of advanced diagnostic technologies, combining top‑tier scientific expertise with state‑of‑the‑art laboratory infrastructure. As part of a technical elite university, the centre translates cutting‑edge research into practical diagnostic solutions that support hospitals, biotech companies, and society at large.

Located at DTU’s Lyngby campus, CfD houses some of the world’s most advanced laboratories and a multidisciplinary team specializing in assay development, biomarker analysis, molecular diagnostics, and high‑throughput technologies. The centre is accredited under ISO/IEC 17025, ensuring robust quality assurance for both accredited and non‑accredited analyses.

A Gateway for Innovation and Industry Collaboration

A core mission of the Centre for Diagnostics is to develop diagnostic tools that solve real‑world problems for hospitals, biotech, and industry, while enabling technology transfer from academic research to commercial application.

DTU Health Tech—of which CfD is a key component—has a strong innovation culture with active engagement in patenting, licensing, spin‑outs, and partnerships with start‑ups and industrial players. It also participates in numerous regional, national, and international innovation networks that connect DTU’s diagnostics research to biotech, pharma, and other knowledge‑based companies.

Collaboration with Start‑ups, Biotech & Pharma

The centre functions as a natural collaborator for:

  • Start‑ups seeking early‑stage assay development, prototype testing, and access to high‑quality laboratory facilities. This is supported by DTU’s broader focus on innovation, spinouts, and tech transfer.
  • Biotech and pharma companies requiring specialized expertise in proteomics, immunoassays, qPCR, rapid tests, and high‑throughput molecular methods. CfD’s role in developing diagnostic solutions for industry is explicitly central to its mission.
  • Industry partners working on point‑of‑care diagnostics, binding assays, biomarker development, and advanced analytical methods, supported by advanced technology platforms such as Olink, MSD, Luminex, ELISA, Biacore, and Fluidigm.

This collaborative approach ensures that scientific breakthroughs are rapidly transformed into impactful commercial diagnostics, strengthening the innovation ecosystem across Denmark’s and Europe’s biotech and pharma sectors.
